The begining and beynd

After watching the difficulties of unifying any form of parentage verification first hand within our breed we wanted to offer an inclusive and fully comprehensive way to provide verifiable proof of parentage and pedigree for the Tamaskan Dog.

This particular program is multifaceted and now in its second stage of development. The first stage was to offer Parentage certification for Tamaskans Dogs via a beta program tied to our Embark Partnership where we can cross verify relationships between littermates, and their respective parents. The second stage for us was to release this program to the full population and all officially accepted clubs and dogs of the TDDP and the keep building those links for generations to come.

The Stages of DNA Verification

As stated above this is an involved and lengthy project that we are building up over time as the organization, technology, and our partnerships can support. The goal is to not only be able to have parantage verifiable but pedigrees over a multitude of generations and in turn eventually use that information for breed research and assistence as well as the eventual breed identity signarure being created with Embark.

Below are the current available portions of this program:

Parentage Certification

Now open to all participants, if the dam and sire of a litter are shared with the TDDP along with the dog(s) that an individual wishes to be verified a certificate is provided certifying parentage has been verified between the listed indivduals along with their Embark swab code, registration number, and registered name.

Pedigree Certification

After two years of development and participation our partnered clubs have a new beta program where we verify multiple generations in the pedigree. This is a linkage program where past verification is cross confirmed and we cannot verify multiple generations in and out of Embark's system to trace the pedigree back as well as continue to build on it.

How Does It Work?

Parentage Certification

The first of many stages of this program was to secure a streamlines method of verifying parentage within the breed and a way for the breed itself to control that information and data without being tied to a single service now or in the future. But we also wanted to give owners, breeders, and clubs alike a way to maintain their own data and account anonymity without signing away their rights or data to each other or other organizations without recourse.

So we got to work. We teamed up with Embark and a system evolved through the assistance of our amazing partnered clubs and beta program that allowed us to streamline a verification process of an dogs tested through and/or shared with the TDDP. As long as a dog's profile is shared with the program (regardless of profile owner, setting, etc.) we can verify relationships between different dogs. By pairing this with the registration paperwork required for all Tamaskans we built a system that allowed Embark to verify relationships and even cross-verify them against data provided form other organizations as well as other Tamaskans in the system and the program launched! With Embark's help and the support of our participants we were able to consistently verify relationships for two years and a vast number of dogs.

What Are We Verifying?

Parentage

First and foremost, we are verifying the relationship of one dog to both their dam and sire. This information is all included on the certificate along with each dog's registered name, Embark swab info, registration number, and date of birth.

Littermates

Similarly, to the parents and the main dog any littermates are listed on the certificate. If the littermates are verified they will have the same information (registered name, Embark swab info, registration number, and date of birth) included. If they are not they are clearly marked as non-dna verified. This holds true for single or multi sired litters/dogs. In these cases, the parentage is clearly marked as half/full siblings.

How Can I participate?

Share The Profiles

The profiles of the Dam, Sire, and any dog(s) you wish to verify must be shared with the TDDP. You can do this through our shared profile form if you have not done so already.

Request Parentage Certification

You choose as a breeder to opt into this service when ordering litter kits as of Jan 1, 2022. However, we are actively buiding out a form specifically for this process that we expect to be live in or before January 2022. But you can email results@tamaskandogdiversityproject.com to requet this service until this is updated to include the form.

Is there a Cost

Because we do not require that the Embark kits be purchased through us or for any prior program participation there is a cost for anyone who is not an active member of a partnered club in order to cover our operational and processing expense. There is a $5 processing fee per digital certificate at this time. We offer printed certificates but prices are based off shipping, processing and supplies at this time to minimize cost as much as possible.

All members of partnered clubs receive digital certificates automatically as part of your orders or as part of initial order follow up requests and printed certificates are available at set partnered agreements for no cost/partnered rate as the clubs typically has a hand in distribution and organizing processing in batches.

Updates

We understand the difficulty of coordinating participation and that is part of the idea behind this program. If at any point in the future a littermate or additional parent is added to our project we will automatically update the verification of your dog(s) and send out new, updated, digital certificates at no cost as long as the dog's profile is still shared with the TDDP. You can always opt to reshare the profile if it was removed, but you will be charged an additional processing fee to reverify the data because of the removal.

Pedigree Certification

Partnered Club Beta Program

Because of the verification process and the significance and effect of DNA verification within our breed this program was designed and continues to grow with a lot of fail safes and stages put in place to guarantee the accuracy of the data and catalog the information appropriately for future use across a vast number of applications. The Pedigree Certification is our second stage of this program and will grow into it's final form over time with continued support and participation. At this time it is only available to partnered clubs in beta and on a case by case basis to other breeders if they meet the full submission requirements.

What Are We Verifying?

Parentage

We are taking the foundation of the Parentage Certification and building upon it. So you will see the dam, sire and entire litter verified. Only dogs/litters that meet this standard are eligible even within partnered clubs. If this standard cannot be met a dog is not eligible for this certification.

Cross Verification

If the first verification is met then either via breeder or club provided documentation there will be a crossover dog(s). This is a dog that was originally verified via past parentage verification methods before Embark per their club breeding standards at the time of mating/birth and/or the dog is three generations into Embark verification via the TDDP program.

Examples would be:

A NTC registered dam/sire who's parentage was verified with their litter in order to be issued registration paperwork who was then also tested with Embark.
A TDR breeding approved female who's parents were verified via geneseek and then the bitch was tested with Embark as well with 1+ verifiable Embark relations within the program.
A dam tested with Embark, submitted with the stud and her litter to the TDDP where two generations of subsequent puppies are produced downline and the litters were tested and submitted to the program with their respective sires. The third generation would be eligible for this verification.

Three Generations +

We are verifying a minimum of the dog, parents, and all four grandparents in order for this certification to be issued. In the case of any dogs in the pedigree behind foundation, outcrosses, etc. the dog will be marked as the starting verification mark unless they too have 3+ generations that meet the requirements for this program.

We will be working with partnered clubs to collect as many of the older parentage verification documents as possible so that those past generations and creting linking dogs via this process can be included in this stage of the project. Eventually it is our hope to be able to verify back to each partnered club's foundation records.

How Can I participate?

Partnered Club Beta Program

At this stage this program is only available to breeders and members of TDDP partnered clubs. While we can not wait to make the portion of the program open for all breeders but we require documentation across multiple generations for dogs owned by a vast number of people.
